Lookbook
I’m shooting a look book in a week. Actually less than that. We’re doing a test this week and then the real deal the following week.
I’m pretty nervous to tell you the truth. The look isn’t specific enough but I am given so much creative freedom its scary (in a good way). I haven’t even really seen much of the clothes but then again I think the best photographers are the ones that don’t really mind for the clothes. I’ve been doing some major research on lighting, cameras & film. Either to shoot it digitally or on film. I want to shoot on film but because of the budget…not really an option. Which sucks…
But we really want this look book to open some eyes. There’s going to be a painted backdrop by fellow friend and artist AB3 and some new tricks I’ve always been interested in trying. There’s a lot of talk about it already and so when people see it…it will be completely different from what I’ve done but at the same time something much more familiar to me than shooting digitally. So you never know I might be purchasing some random cameras and film for the hell of it next week. I’ve been looking at Holga’s, Russian POS, Rangefinders, Medium Format, Large Format and even shooting it with disposable cameras.
I think anything shot on film evokes much more care and emotion than anything digital. The texture, depth, imperfections, grain and mistakes is what its all about. That’s what I connect to anyway…and I’ve been even editing my digital RAW files to look like film because of it.
But one thing I’m also really excited about is that we will be also creating a film to go with it. I’m so excited about that. It’s going to be beautiful. I was inspired by Nick Knight’s fashion film but want to do something similar but with more personality and story. So likely everything I post this week and next will be everything I’m looking and studying for this shoot…
